About the athlete

Gustavo is a Wheelchair Tennis star from Argentina, who at the age of 30, is a seasoned veteran and legend of the sport. Gustavo made his big breakthrough in 2011, at the age of 17, when he won the Gold Medal in Singles at the 2011 Parapan American games. In 2012, he would make his first Paralympic Games appearance at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Gustavo has a talent for winning when it matters most, having won five Grand Slam titles in his career including two Australian Opens, two French Opens, and one Wimbledon Championship. He has also appeared in the U.S. Open finals, finishing runner up in 2014. In addition to his major singles victories, Gustavo has won a French Open and two Wimbledon titles in doubles. In 2017, Gustavo reached the pinnacle of the sport as the number one ranked player in the world.

Since his Paralympic debut at London 2012, Gustavo has competed at both Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. Despite his many successes over his career, Gustavo has yet to win a Medal at the Paralympic Games. In Paris 2024, he will be looking to add that final piece to his Medal collection.
